Commissions My commission pricing is available on this webpage (scroll back up!). Prices are estimates only, shown in AUD, and subject to change.
Pricing assumes a single subject and does not include additional elements such as backgrounds. I am happy to include these if you would like, but please understand they add time and cost to the artwork. I can provide you with an estimate to help you decide which option is best for you. My estimates are valid for 60 days.
Commissions require a 25% initial deposit and remaining final payment by bank transfer. When you book, I will send you an invoice for the initial deposit, along with my commission T&Cs. Your deposit is non-refundable, unless you change your mind during the 14-day cooling off period after booking.
Unframed prints can be purchased directly from my online shop. I accept major credit and debit cards.

Payments to be made in AUD.

You should consider your budget and how many subject(s) need to be included in the artwork. My commission pricing is available on this webpage (scroll back up!).
The following guide may assist you, but I am also happy to offer suggestions:
Mini (A5) - ideal for one subject only (e.g. a small bird). Not suitable for pet portraits as this size does not allow for sufficient detail.
Small (A4) - suitable for one subject, e.g. head and neck
Medium (A3) - suitable for 1-2 subjects, e.g. head and neck, or full body
Large (A2) - suitable for 1-3 subjects
You should also consider the space available where you plan to display the artwork. Bear in mind that artworks take up more room once framed. A good rule of thumb to estimate how big the framed artwork will be is to double the size of the unframed piece. For example, an A4 portrait plus a frame will be approximately the same size as an A3 piece of paper.
-
Commissioned artworks are shipped unframed and unmounted - this helps keep the weight (and shipping cost!) down, while also minimising the chances of accidental breakages and damage to your artwork.
If your budget allows, I recommend having your artwork professionally framed and mounted. The choice of final frame and mount can really make your bespoke artwork shine!
A good professional framer will help you select a mount and frame that works best with your artwork.
If you are based locally in Hobart, I am happy to recommend good local framers, and can work with a framer on your behalf if you would prefer.

I work from high-quality photographs to ensure I can produce a stunning piece of artwork. Here is some information on two major factors I need to consider:
QUALITY - A high-quality reference photo is in focus with plenty of detail and naturally lit (outdoors is best). Photos taken using phone cameras are often fine to use, but please send me the original higher resolution version rather than an image that has been posted to social media (which is often a smaller file size and loses resolution).
For portraits, photographs should be taken at the subject’s eye level, otherwise the body proportions can look distorted. Check if a reflection is visible in the subject’s eye - if not, it is likely too dark. Please also check that the colouring in the image is true to life.
I understand sometimes it is not possible to take additional photos (e.g. to commemorate a lost pet) and I would be happy to talk to you about what might be possible. I can work from multiple photographs if needed.
If you’re unsure whether your photographs will be suitable, I’d be happy to take look before you book.
COPYRIGHT - Please only send me photographs you have taken yourself, or if you have written permission from the photographer. This includes images you may have purchased from a professional photographer (e.g. from a photo shoot) as they still own the copyright.
For wildlife commissions, I can use images found online, provided they are royalty free (e.g. from websites like Pixabay), an extended licence has been paid for (e.g. iStock), or the photographer has provided written permission to use their image (e.g. via Instagram). Please note some photographers charge a fee for using their images, which may add to the cost of the commission. I can assist you with finding an appropriate reference image and seeking permission – let me know if you have a particular image in mind.
-
When commissioning artwork, it is most helpful if you have a clear vision for what you want - the more clarity you can give me in the early stages, the better!
If you’ve booked and paid your deposit but are unsure of a few details, I have a few things in place to help guide you through the process:
I am happy to discuss your ideas and help you find appropriate reference photographs.
I can prepare quick sketches or digital mock-ups to help visualise the composition.
If needed, we can delay your commission start date if you need time to consider options (max 6 months).
If you change your mind after the cooling off period and don’t want to reschedule, I can cancel your booking but your deposit is non-refundable.
If you’re really unsure, please feel free to contact me before booking - I can provide advice to help you decide. Please note I do not prepare mock-ups or sketches without a deposit.
Requests for changes to the artwork
Once I’ve started work on your commission, I am happy to make small adjustments in response to your feedback, but please understand that many requests for changes (especially new requests) take additional time and I may need to charge you extra fees accordingly. Colour pencil is not an easy medium for making quick adjustments!
The best time to tell me about colour adjustments or other changes you’d like me to make to the reference image(s) is in the initial stages while we are working out the composition.
-
I will always do my best to accommodate your timeframes, but this may not always be possible. My work takes weeks or even months to complete, and is not suitable for short-notice requests.
If you’re interested in my work and it’s too late to create a new drawing to meet your deadline, I encourage you to:
check out my range of open and limited edition prints, and
sign up to my mailing list - this is the best way to find out when my commission books are open, so you can plan ahead!
-
I post progress pictures and images of commission pieces to my social media accounts and website.
I would of course be happy to delay posting any images of your commission until after it has been received and/or gifted to the recipient - please let me know at the time of booking.
-
I want you to be 100% happy with your purchase.
All artwork is carefully and securely packaged for shipping, but I am happy to offer refunds or replacements in the event an artwork arrives damaged. Please contact me within 24 hours with photographs and a description of the packaging and the damage.
Commissioned artwork can only be returned if damaged in transit. In this case, I will make an insurance claim and discuss with you preparing a replacement artwork.
Due to the nature of commissioned artwork, I do not offer refunds for changes of mind.
To ensure you are completely happy with your commissioned artwork before it is shipped to you:
I consult with you on your selected reference images, including the need for any colour corrections or other adjustments
I send regular work-in-progress images while your artwork is being created
I send you an image of the completed artwork for final approval.
Further details are available in my returns policy, here.

I ship framed works and original artworks, including commissions, securely packaged with tracking, and with insurance wherever possible.
I can offer a refund or replacement in the event your purchase arrives damaged. I will need photographic evidence of any damage to be able to process a refund, issue a replacement, or make a claim.
In the event an original artwork goes missing or arrives damaged, I can either issue a refund, offer a replacement with a limited edition print (for original, non-commissioned work) or work to prepare a replacement (commissioned artwork).
I have never had to use any of these measures, and I hope I never need to.
Further details are available in my returns policy, here.

Artwork care: My artwork is created with care using professional artist grade, archival pigments and surfaces that are highly lightfast and resistant to fading over time. Here are some tips to help you ensure it lasts for many years to come:
Avoid handling your artwork - creases are permanent, and even the cleanest of hands contain natural oils that will easily transfer onto the artwork surface. If you do need to handle the artwork, ideally you should wear cotton gloves.
Flat-packed artwork: Keep the artwork in its protective packaging, flat and facing upwards, until you are ready to frame it.
Rolled prints should be carefully removed from their box by holding the print carefully at the edges and placing it on a flat, clean surface (do not remove the protective acid-free paper or plastic it comes in). Place a heavy book at each end of the print and leave for a few days - the print will flatten out.
DO NOT attempt to roll the print in the opposite direction - this could cause irreversible damage.
Framing: Professional framing is the best way to prolong the life of your artwork.
A good framer will be able to guide you through the process of selecting a mat border and frame to best complement your artwork.
Ask your framer about using museum-quality, archival glass or acrylic that will minimise fading caused by UV light (e.g. AR70 ArtGlass or similar).
If you’re based in Hobart TAS, I am happy to provide recommendations about where you can get your artwork framed.
Excess heat, dryness, dampness and exposure to light will shorten the life of your artwork. Do not hang your artwork where it will be exposed to direct sunlight (e.g. outdoors or directly opposite a large window), near unfiltered fluorescent lamps or incandescent bulbs, or in an area subject to humidity changes (e.g. in/near a bathroom or kitchen).
